Prahaar Trailer: Rajkummar Rao Steps Into Ujjwal Nikam’s Role in 26/11 Courtroom Drama

Mumbai [India], September 30: The trailer of Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam has been released, offering a closer look at Rajkummar Rao’s portrayal of renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and the courtroom battle surrounding the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case. Directed by Avinash Arun, the film is set to arrive in cinemas on October 16, 2026.

The trailer takes viewers into the legal proceedings that followed the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, with Rajkummar Rao playing Ujjwal Nikam, who led the prosecution in the trial of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving attacker captured after the attacks. Rather than focusing only on the attacks themselves, the film explores the courtroom proceedings and Nikam’s role in the legal battle.

The trailer begins with Nikam questioning a young girl about what she witnessed during the 26/11 attacks. The sequence gradually shifts into the courtroom, where the prosecution faces a difficult legal battle. Sikandar Kher appears as a lawyer on the opposite side, while Jaideep Ahlawat is shown as part of a delegation from Islamabad.

One of the key moments in the trailer comes when Kasab is shown taking the witness stand. The character makes a claim that he had come to Mumbai as a tourist and denies being a terrorist, setting up one of the intense courtroom confrontations shown in the film. The trailer also touches upon the legal questions and arguments that formed part of the case.

Rajkummar Rao’s transformation into Ujjwal Nikam is another major focus of the trailer. His appearance, body language and Marathi dialogue delivery have been designed to reflect the prosecutor he portrays. The film also moves beyond the courtroom, giving a glimpse into Nikam’s personal life and the impact of handling a case of such national significance.

Wamiqa Gabbi plays Jyoti Nikam, Ujjwal Nikam’s wife, bringing the personal side of the story into the narrative. The trailer suggests that while Nikam remains focused on the case, the pressure of the proceedings also affects his family life.

Prahaar is being presented as a courtroom drama based on real events, with the 26/11 trial forming the central storyline. The makers have chosen to focus on the legal proceedings and the work of the prosecution rather than retelling the entire terror attack from the beginning. This gives the film a distinct perspective on an event that has already been portrayed in several films and documentaries.

The trailer was unveiled in Mumbai on September 30, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Ujjwal Nikam, Rajkummar Rao and members of the film’s team attending the launch at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Families of police personnel who were killed during the 26/11 attacks were also present at the event.

Along with Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film features Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher and Tarun Sharma in important roles. Avinash Arun has directed the film, while Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films is behind the project. Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is scheduled for theatrical release on October 16, 2026.
