Mumbai [India], October 3: Drishyam: The Conclusion director Abhishek Pathak has revealed that developing the central twist for the third and final chapter of the franchise was one of the biggest challenges for the team. With audiences having spent years discussing theories around Vijay Salgaonkar and his ability to stay ahead of the police, the filmmakers wanted to create a storyline that viewers would not easily anticipate.
According to Pathak, the writing team was aware that fans had already developed numerous theories about how the story could continue after the events of the previous films. Instead of simply following those theories, the filmmakers deliberately tried to move in another direction while working on the screenplay.
The director explained that the team wanted to find an element that audiences had either not considered or had overlooked. This process took considerable time because the third instalment needed to maintain the suspense associated with the franchise while also offering something new.
A major part of the new story revolves around Tabu’s character, Meera Deshmukh. Pathak has described her emotional journey as one of the central elements of Drishyam: The Conclusion. Meera has spent years looking for answers surrounding her son’s death, and the latest chapter explores how her approach to getting justice changes.
The director said that Meera’s character was not designed simply as a conventional antagonist. Her search for closure and her desire for revenge form an important part of the film’s narrative. The story also examines how the Deshmukh family approaches the case differently this time compared with the earlier instalments.
Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar, the central character of the Hindi Drishyam franchise. Vijay’s ability to protect his family by staying several steps ahead of investigators has been at the heart of the previous films. The third instalment raises the question of whether the same strategy can continue to work when the investigation takes a new direction.
The filmmakers also had to consider the growing online discussion surrounding the franchise. Drishyam has developed a large fan following, with viewers frequently discussing possible explanations and future twists on social media. Pathak said the team was conscious of these discussions but did not want to simply build the film around existing fan theories.
Instead, the writing process focused on finding an idea that could surprise audiences while remaining connected to the characters and events already established in the franchise. This became particularly important for the third film because it is being presented as the conclusion to Vijay Salgaonkar’s story.
The film also features Jaideep Ahlawat in an important role as a police officer who becomes involved in the reopened investigation. His character adds another layer to the conflict surrounding Vijay and the Salgaonkar family. The investigation creates fresh pressure on Vijay as the story moves towards its final chapter.
Drishyam: The Conclusion continues the franchise’s combination of family drama, crime investigation and suspense. While the earlier films focused heavily on Vijay’s attempts to protect his family from the consequences of a crime, the latest chapter brings new investigators and motivations into the story.
Pathak’s comments suggest that the filmmakers were particularly focused on protecting the element of surprise. Rather than revealing the major twist before audiences enter theatres, the team has kept important details of the storyline under wraps.
With the film now in theatres, audiences can finally see how the new storyline unfolds and whether the mystery surrounding Vijay Salgaonkar reaches its conclusion in the way the filmmakers have planned.
