Mumbai [India], October 1: Drishyam 3 : Ajay Devgn has revealed that he personally called Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and asked him to watch Drishyam: The Conclusion ahead of its theatrical release. The Hindi franchise is returning with its third and final instalment, but Mohanlal could not watch the film immediately because he was on holiday.
Speaking at FICCI Frames, Ajay Devgn explained that he wanted Mohanlal to see the film because of the connection between the two Drishyam franchises. The first two Hindi films were adaptations of the Malayalam originals starring Mohanlal, while the new Hindi instalment takes a completely different route.
Ajay said that getting Mohanlal’s response was important to him. He explained that he wanted the Malayalam superstar to watch the film because the team had moved away from the earlier storyline and created a new script for the Hindi franchise. Mohanlal was travelling at the time, so he could not watch the film immediately, although Ajay said the actor had continued interacting with the team.
The third Hindi film has been officially titled Drishyam: The Conclusion. Unlike the first two instalments, which followed the Malayalam films more closely, the new movie has an original storyline. Ajay has previously described it as the first film in the franchise with a completely different script rather than a modified version of Mohanlal’s story.
The decision to create a separate storyline also marks a significant change for the franchise. Director Abhishek Pathak has said that after Drishyam 2, he wanted the next film to move away from another remake and instead develop a fresh story for Vijay Salgaonkar, the character played by Ajay Devgn.
Ajay Devgn will return as Vijay Salgaonkar, while Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and other returning members are also part of the film. Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj are among the new additions to the cast. Abhishek Pathak has written and directed the film.
The makers have positioned Drishyam: The Conclusion as the final chapter of the Hindi franchise. Ajay has said that finding the right story after Drishyam 2 was challenging, and the team eventually decided to conclude the character’s journey rather than continue the franchise without a suitable narrative.
The film is scheduled to release in theatres on October 2, 2026. With the Hindi version taking an original path this time, Mohanlal’s eventual reaction to the film is also expected to be of interest to followers of both versions of the Drishyam franchise.
