Mumbai [India], October 1: The makers of the popular Stree franchise have officially confirmed that Stree 3 is in development and is scheduled to arrive in theatres in 2028. The announcement was made in Mumbai, with actor Rajkummar Rao and producer Dinesh Vijan sharing details about the next chapter of the horror-comedy franchise.
The third instalment will once again feature Rajkummar Rao, who has been at the centre of the franchise since the first film released in 2018. The original Stree introduced audiences to the fictional town of Chanderi and its mysterious supernatural stories, combining horror with comedy and small-town characters.
The makers have also revealed that the script for Stree 3 has been finalised. Director Amar Kaushik, who helmed both Stree and Stree 2, is associated with the third film as well. According to the latest announcement, the new instalment is being planned as a continuation of the franchise while taking its supernatural world further.
Rajkummar Rao has also reflected on the journey of the franchise, which began with the first Stree in 2018. The film went on to establish a distinctive combination of horror, comedy and folklore, while Stree 2, released in 2024, expanded the story and connected it with the wider supernatural universe being developed by Maddock Films.
The announcement comes as fans continue to follow the expanding Maddock supernatural universe. The success of Stree 2 further increased interest in the characters and stories introduced in the franchise, with Rajkummar Rao’s Vicky remaining one of its central characters.
The makers have described Stree 3 as a project that will be a “complete revelation” for audiences. However, detailed information about the film’s storyline, additional cast members and the exact release date has not yet been revealed.
For now, the confirmed information is that Stree 3 is targeting a 2028 theatrical release, with the script ready and the franchise moving ahead with its next chapter. More details about the cast, production schedule and story are expected to be announced by the makers at a later stage.
