Mumbai [India], September 30: Rahul Bhatt has spoken about a controversial incident involving actor Ranvir Shorey and his sister Pooja Bhatt that took place more than two decades ago. In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Rahul recalled an altercation between Ranvir and Pooja and admitted that his response at the time went too far.
According to Rahul’s account, there was an argument between Ranvir Shorey and Pooja Bhatt in 2002. Rahul said that he intervened after what he described as Ranvir hitting his sister. He acknowledged that he reacted aggressively during the confrontation and said that he damaged Ranvir’s car and broke one of his ribs.
Rahul also said that he was arrested and charged following the incident. Looking back at the episode years later, he said he believes he was wrong to take the law into his own hands and admitted that he overreacted.
He further recalled how Ranvir handled the legal proceedings that followed. According to Rahul, Ranvir agreed to put the matter behind them during the compounding of the offence, after which the FIR was quashed. Rahul described Ranvir as being decent in the way he dealt with the matter and said he respected him for not holding a grudge.
The comments have brought renewed attention to the much-discussed relationship between Ranvir Shorey and Pooja Bhatt. The two were reportedly in a relationship in the early 2000s and lived together before their relationship ended in a highly publicised manner around 2002.
Ranvir has previously given his own account of the controversy. In a 2024 interview, he said that Pooja had accused him of physical and verbal abuse, allegations he denied. He also said that Rahul Bhatt was the person who assaulted him during the dispute. Ranvir further alleged that false stories portraying him as an alcoholic and abusive person were planted in the media, an allegation he attributed to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt.
Pooja Bhatt’s earlier allegations and Ranvir Shorey’s denials represent conflicting accounts of the events surrounding their breakup. The latest comments from Rahul Bhatt provide another account of the incident, but they do not independently establish all aspects of what happened between the former couple.
Rahul’s latest remarks are notable because he has now openly expressed regret over his actions, despite having spoken differently about the incident in the past. According to reports, he had previously said that he would again intervene if someone harmed his sister. His recent comments instead acknowledge that his response in the Ranvir Shorey case was excessive.
The episode remains one of the more widely discussed controversies connected with the Bhatt family and Ranvir Shorey’s early career. More than 20 years later, Rahul’s admission has once again brought the old dispute into the spotlight.
