Mumbai [India], October 24: Marathi film Kapuskoonda, starring veteran actor Sachin Pilgaonkar and Madhurani Gokhale Prabhulkar, has arrived in theatres on October 23, 2026. Directed by Sachin Mohite, the film presents an emotional family story centred on the unexpected bond between a retired postmaster and a dog.

The film follows Hamid, a retired postmaster who is afraid of dogs. His life takes an unexpected turn when his younger daughter brings a puppy home. Initially reluctant to accept the animal, Hamid gradually develops an emotional connection with it. However, an unfortunate incident involving the dog puts this growing bond to the test and changes the family’s life.

A Story Inspired by a Real-Life Incident

The story of Kapuskoonda has its roots in an incident from the Latur region. Director Sachin Mohite began developing the story in 2016 after learning about the real-life experience that inspired the film. The project later faced delays during the COVID-19 pandemic before moving forward towards production.

Filming also presented challenges for the team. Parts of the shoot took place around Andhori village near Latur, where heavy rainfall reportedly washed away the constructed set on three occasions. Despite these difficulties, the team completed the project and brought the story to the big screen.

Sachin Pilgaonkar and Madhurani Gokhale Lead the Cast

Sachin Pilgaonkar plays Hamid, while Madhurani Gokhale Prabhulkar appears as his wife, Nusrat. The cast also includes Janhvi Tambat, Akshata Padgaonkar, Bhushan Patil and Bhau Kadam.

The film combines family relationships, companionship and the emotional importance of animals in people’s lives. Madhurani Gokhale also participated in promotional activities ahead of the release, including an appearance on the Marathi television programme Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

Kapuskoonda Box Office and Audience Response

Kapuskoonda opened in cinemas on Friday, October 23. Early trade commentary has described its theatrical opening as modest, while detailed, verified box-office figures have not yet been established consistently across tracking sources.

The film’s performance over the opening weekend will be important in determining whether positive audience recommendations can help it attract more families to theatres. Its emotional premise and the presence of familiar Marathi cinema performers are central to its appeal.

With a story built around family bonds and the relationship between a man and a dog, Kapuskoonda offers Marathi audiences a drama that explores love, fear, responsibility and companionship.
